The Municipal Library of Joutsa

History

The library was established 1864 by Aksel Lehtinen, a schoolmaster and civil cervant, and was probably located at his home. Year 1878 there were 30 books in the library.

Year 2004 the library moved into its’ current location, a former convenience store. We’ve Aksel in the library even today: the modern Aksel is a cute library elf you can see for example on our Facebook site.

Borrowing

Everyone is welcome to borrow our materials. You need to prove your identity with an ID with a photo and fill a registration form to get a library card. You need the library card every time you borrow something.

Borrowing is free of charge. If you don’t return your loans in time, the fee is 2,50. Reservation is also free of charge.

The length of the loan period is 4 weeks (books, periodicals, audiobooks) or 2 weeks (other av-materials). Renewal is possible if there aren’t reservations. You can renew your loans online (you get a password at the library), by phone or of course by visiting the library.

If we don’t have something you need in Joutsa library you can request that from other Keski library. Keski libraries have removed all their reservation fees since January 2017. Only if you don't collect your reservation, there will be a fee (2 euros). If the reservation is cancelled before last collection time, no fee will be charged.
