Kaikenlaista sitä tapahtuu…vähä siellä sun tiällä ja silloin on parasta olla paikalla!

Joutsa’s lively event scene delights both residents and visitors. Summer is the peak season for events, but there is plenty to enjoy throughout the year. The most well-known event in Joutsa is the Joutsa Joutopäivät festival. In addition, the Suonteen soitto concert series at Café Meijerinliiteri, events at Haihatus Art Institution, and the dance nights at Letkaliiteri attract audiences from beyond the municipality. Smaller events, from rural markets to sports and recreational activities, fill nearly every summer weekend. Welcome and enjoy!

Joutopäivät-festival

Held in July, Joutsan Joutopäivät is a cheerful village festival that celebrates rural traditions and is well worth visiting even from farther afield. Organized since the 1970s, the event has featured many outstanding performers over the years and offers a wide range of activities and experiences for all ages.

Culture and music events

In addition to exhibitions, the Haihatus Art Center hosts several other events during the summer. The Suonteen soitto summer concerts, in turn, offer a unique blend of magical summer evenings and magnificent music in the “ice room,” a stone cowshed built in 1912.

Letkaliiteri in Rutalahti is one of Central Finland’s most legendary dance venues. In addition to dance nights, Letkaliiteri hosts a variety of other events. Music lovers should also keep an eye on the concert offerings at venues such as Kellari Restaurant and Huttula.

In Joutsa, summer theatre can be enjoyed, among other things, at performances by the Joutsa Youth Association’s Talkooteatteri, and lovers of cinematic art can head to the big screen at Joutsa Kino. The Ilokuvafestival will be held at the cinema from July 30 to August 2, 2026. In addition, the cultural services of the Municipality of Joutsa, along with other companies, associations, and clubs, organize a variety of cultural events open to everyone.

In August, shopping takes place at the Joutsa Market in the town center, and the market season concludes at the end of September with the wonderfully atmospheric rural market in Rutalahti.

Sports events

Visitors to Joutsa who enjoy team sports should head to the Joutsa Sports Hall to watch JoSePa in futsal matches or Flanels in floorball games. The teams’ home matches attract full stands of spectators eager to see impressive ball skills in action.

Horsepower roars both at Joutsa’s horse races and at the Joutsa region’s motor racing track, which hosts several motorsport events. You can also test your own “horsepower” in the traditional Joutohölkkä organized by Joutsa Pommi.

In winter, the snowmobile safari organized by Lumikissat attracts dozens of riders each year, while the Joutsan Hiihdot cross-country skiing event organized by Joutsa Pommi draws several hundred skiers.
